Description:

Boundary Lake is a managed bass lake located on the buffer zone North East of Simmons Airfield off McArthur Road.   This lake is about a mile off the road and sits on the edge East edge of Fort Bragg.  This lake is about 145 yards wide and 515 yards long.  Boundary Lake contains sunfish, bass, catfish and pickerel.  In the spring, aquatic grass goes and makes spinning lures difficult.  By prime bass season, the grass is gone.    This lake has a tremendous number of stumps with many of them submerged just below the surface.  Because it is on the installation boundary and accessible from McArthur road, many locals fish the lake.  It is rare to find the lake void of fishermen.

Editor’s Opinion:

If you live on main post or in Fayetteville, Boundary Lake is a short drive.  This lake has plenty of structure and stumps on the North and West side.  Beware of submerged stumps!  I have been hung up on submerged stumps several times.  One time, the top of the stump locked into a scupper hole and it took me several minutes to get free.  Each of the lettered hot spots above have produced several bass over 14 inches but all were young.  I never had any luck along the dam breast or South side.    I have not caught any bass over 17 inches at Boundary Lake but I have spoken with several who have landed large bass over 5 pounds.  Some of the sunfish are very big.

roads.  The dirt road starts at Point #1 and travels east to take you to the NE corner of the lake.  The road continues over the dam breast to the southern bank.  Other fire breaks lead to the southern bank and many of them are in good repair.  The intended route to the lake is subject to erosion and can be tough going for cars in the spring or after sever storms.

Point #1 Lat/Long:  35.175719 -78.919843.  Access off of McArthur road is marked by a sign.  The sign shows up at the last second.  Just be heads up.

Point #2 is the boat ramp.

Launch Site:  The south side of the dam breast has a concrete boat ramp.  Parking is basically finding a spot between trees without blocking others from reaching the launch.  All around the lake, there are many options to launch Kayaks off the beaches that are created by erosion coming off of firebreaks.

Bank Fishing:  Numerous sites allow access to the lake for bank fishing.  The dam breast is usable for fishing as well as the walk way out to the drain pipe.  Because it is near Fayetteville, bank fishermen keep a lot of pressure on the lake.

Timing:  No surprise here.  Early Spring through June is good.  April was the best month.  Mornings are good.  Last hour of light is the best time. July and August slows down.
