Notes on Military Leadership

This might appear to be out of the blue for a fishing blog, but if you understand the background of bluecordfishermen, this post makes perfect sense.

I’ve been knocking around the military for the past 35 years.  I have spent time on the payroll of all four services.  You get to meet

some truly remarkable men and women.  The movies and fiction books don’t even come close to the real life personalities.

I’m stating this as a set up for my perspective that one of the absolute best combat leaders I know is COL William Chamberlain.  The guys in the picture have the privilege of saying that we rode with Chamberlain during DESERT STORM.  Reportsfrominthearena.com is worth a visit whether you are an old salty vet or a cadet in ROTC or one of the Academies.

His website contains lessons on leadership that any level can appreciate.  His fiction books (Tripwire, Operation Desert Vengeance) are worth a read and can be found on Amazon.  I wonder who is the basis for Colonel Sampson in these novels?

The picture above is from Kelly Hill and the focus of the annual reunion of 1-18th Infantry.  Here the Boss is paying respects to the men who made the ultimate sacrifice back in ’91 in the sands of Iraq.

Those above are all not Infantrymen, but we are all Brothers forged as a team while serving in TF 1-18th Infantry during DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM
